A eukaryotic chromosome contains a long, linear molecule of double-stranded DNA. This DNA is tightly coiled within the chromosome, but unravels during interphase, when DNA replication occurs. A eukaryotic chromosome contains multiple origins of replication.
At each origin of replication, DNA synthesis proceeds bidirectionally. Two replication forks move outward in opposite directions.
The replicating DNA helices from each origin elongate and eventually join each other.
The original chromosome has been replicated to form two identical daughter DNA molecules, also called sister chromatids.
A human cell spends an estimated eight hours replicating its DNA before dividing into two daughter cells. During this time, a thousand or more different origins of replication may open up to initiate the replication process. From the opening of each origin, two replication forks travel in opposite directions, adding nucleotides at an estimated rate of 50 base pairs per second. Bacteria replicate their DNA even faster, at rates in excess of 1,000 base pairs per second.
Despite these fast rates, DNA replication is surprisingly accurate. During the polymerization process, DNA polymerases proofread and correct virtually every mismatched nucleotide that they may incorporate into a new DNA strand. Other enzymes also contribute to the repair effort, ultimately leaving a cell with just one error in every billion new nucleotides. By investing energy in proofreading and repair mechanisms, cells protect the fidelity of their genetic information from one generation to the next.

    In the video it appears to be two different DNA polymerase III, one for adding DNA nucleotides to the leading strand and the other for the lagging strand, but it's actually a single DNA polymerase III dimer that does the process in a coordinated way, isn't it? I was trying to understand this specific process. Thanks for the video anyway.

    • @homeworkclinic2119
      @homeworkclinic2119 2 місяці тому

      human growth hormone (HGH). Produced by the anterior portion of the pituitary gland, HGH accelerates protein synthesis, particularly in skeletal muscle and bones.

    • @bertrand00956
      @bertrand00956 2 місяці тому

      @@homeworkclinic2119 You didn't answer correctly. HGH is not the hormone responsible for the CLOSURE of the growth plate. Actually, there isn't a "hormone" responsible for the closure of the growth plate. The growth plate closes by itself through ossification, once the rate of ossification and degenerescence of chondrocytes surpasses the regeneration of the proliferative layer. While there are factor that can cause the growth plate to close prematurely/sooner, there isn't a single hormone or mediator that is responsible for growth plate closure alone ; it closes naturally with time, and the age at which it closes depends on numerous factors, mainly genetics, but also environmental.

    • @bertrand00956
      @bertrand00956 2 місяці тому

      @@homeworkclinic2119 Also, GH exerces an influence on bone growth through somatomedin (IGF-1 mainly). Just saying that GH has anabolic effects doesn't explain how bone elongation works.

    So how do you undo damage from Depakote causing reduction of basal temperature related to carnitine deficiency - IDC10 medical billing code E71.43, unchanged since 2007, taking carnitine halted the progression from 98.6 even when I got sick as a child, which was incredibly irritating at the time, all the way down to 95.6f, but when I started taking carnitine, stabilized at 97.4. That means that I can't lose weight the way I used to, and certain chemical interactions may not be working correctly because my health has taken damage. My doctors didn't catch this, I did, and they haven't been very useful except for one helping me get off Depakote safely. To not gain weight, I have to take nutritional supplements to get the same nutrients without getting more calories than I need, and convincing doctors of this isn't uphill battle. I just don't use the same calories, because I don't build as much heat. It also makes it very hard to get warm, under covers I just don't build the heat.
